I’m a Californian. It’s where I was born, educated, and came of age. To put a finer point on it, most of my life’s most important, formative, and glorious events happened in, or because of, my time in the Golden State.
If forced to put music to my memories there, it would likely involve the unmistakable sound of the Eagles. Their Desperado album would be a good place to start.
The album’s first single ‘Tequila Sunrise’ is not only a great song, it’s your cocktail of the week.
Occasionally, Glenn Frey sang an additional verse when performing it live. It resonates with me:
“Guess I’ll go to Mexico, down to where the pace of life is slow, there’s no one there I know. It’s another Tequila Sunrise, wondering if I’m growing wise or telling lies.”
Class complete. Cheers friends, be well and take care of one another.
